Yesterday I took the plunge and had Emma's hair cut into a chin length bob. I figured she never kept the ponytails or barettes in anyway so what is the point of having it long and scraggly looking. I should have done it months ago. The picture doesn't do it justice but trust me, it is an adorable look on her. Very impish.

One of my attendings at the University of Washington had baseball tickets she was not able to use so last night Dunn, Zach and I jumped on the opportunity to see our newly adopted team romp the Detroit Tigers.
This week we went to the science center in Seattle. Dunn and I found a huge chess set and decided to play. Although we couldn't finish the game it was fun.
Today at 1:30 I am going for a second time to my best freind Anthonys house as a sleep over.I am very exited to get away from my brothers for a little while.
Check out Dan's Westhoff.net page. Note that the latest content from mywesthoff.com is now syndicated and available directly on his westhoff.net page! Does that not freakin' rock!?! Yes, it doth indeed rock greatly!!!
Hyrum is really starting to get the hang of smiling. His personality is really starting to come through. One thing we have learned is that he is not that fond of Brad. I will hand him off to Brad and he will start screaming. Then, as soon as I take him back he will stop. It is not even that he is hungry or tired. It is pretty funny at times but a pain when I need to get things done. I think Brad likes it most of the time as it gets him off baby duty but at times it is frustrating because his baby no like him!
Tonight Zach, Dad and, me are going to a Mariners baseball game witch is our second time.Chase is disipointed that he can't go.One of me and Zachs favorite things is try to get our selves on tv.
Last week on our campout we hiked a three mile boardwalk to the ocean. When we got to the ocean, the first thing we did was take off our shoes and shirts and run to the water. We were expecting sand, but got rocks. We went in the water anyway to test our skill. When I decided to go back on the shore to dry I noticed that my foot was cut in two places. Dad was pretty sure that it was going to get infected and I kept on asking him if I was going to die. It was a miracle that it healed fine, but it sure did sting.
We took Hyrum in for his four month doctor visit. Well, he was off the charts for everything. You would think that we would be used to this with Harker but it took him a while to blast off the charts. Hyrum weighed in at a healthy 19 pounds 2 ozs. The grocery bills are going to be huge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Greetings from Utah! I can't tell you how nice it has been to spend the weekend in civilization. Don't get me wrong I love the great outdoors (Idaho) but it is nice to visit the big city now and then and the shopping wasn't too bad ether. My summer term is almost over and I will get to spend a week or so with mom and dad before fall semester. Peace out.
Last Thursday the boys and I drove all the way to the northwestern-most tip of the Olympic peninsula to camp at Lake Ozette. The lake itself is unremarkable (at least by Washington standards, it would no doubt be a standout anywhere else), what makes the spot a destination is the associated coastal trails. From Lake Ozette, the only access to the coast is by foot—on a three mile long boardwalk through rainforest. It really made for a remarkably beautiful hike.
This is the first ever "ping" between Westhoff.net and Mywesthoff.com using a technology called TrackBack. If successfull, it will usher in a new era of solidarity within the Westhoff cyberworld, bringing a little bit more harmony to an otherwise chaotic world. If it fails...well, I don't want to think about it. The ping will link this entry to an entry on Dan's site in which he pleads with Matt and Dad to get their blogging houses in order. Well said Dan.
P.S. Don't forget to view the "Quickies" column when viewing this page, it's good to see people catching the vision there!
Don't forget to visit: mywesthoff.com! "The other Westhoff site."
HI! It is an honor to be a part of this website with my fellow Westhoffs. I can only say that I am greatful I found out ahead of time that is is bad form to post a prego picture of myself. I was unaware that there is a certain code of conduct that I need to follow as long as I am a member of this modern, high speed family. Although I am very happy to be a part of this page, I hate to report that I will not be coming to the website 100 times a day (like some of you) concidering the fact that I do not have regular access, hence the reason I will not be updating it on a regular basis. Hope you enjoy what you have for now.
All the other two year olds at the playground today were calling Harker "Big Guy".
The two day Ocean adventure was shortened to a one dayer due to some crisis keeping a fellow resident from work and John haveing to cover a shift. Bummer in the Summer.
Katie is visiting and we had fun at the North Park Celebration.

A congressional hearing on the links between terrorism, organized crime, and the illegal trading of copyrighted material produced more complaints about college students using peer-to-peer (P-to-P) networks and other governments sanctioning copyright violations than it did evidence of nefarious connections.
Witnesses and representatives at the U.S. House Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Courts, the Internet and Intellectual Property hearing Thursday did express fears that profits from widespread copying of movies, music and software outside the U.S. were being funneled into terrorist organizations, but the hearing produced no concrete examples of that happening.
In the spirit of my family's gathering in Manti...I endevoured to teach Dunn and Zach how to play Scrabble. I don't think Paul and Sarah have to worry much about defending thier place as Supreme Scrabblers of the Universe as of yet but my boys are starting to catch the vision. It was a fun afternoon and I was amazed how long they were willing to keep at it. Every once in a while I just had to help out and put a long word down. The board gets cramped awfully fast when a four tile word is the maximum...
Just thought I would give Daniel something different to look at.
Harker loves his big purple dinosour.
Tomorrow we are going on our second two-day campout. I have made the menu. We are going to hike to the ocean from our campsite. We are hoping for better weather this time. Last time we didn't have that much luck.
I had to post one more time to get Diane's prego photo off my screen.
P. S. - Diane, don't take this the wrong way. I think you will be a wounderfull mother.
Nothing against Diane or anything, but I am posting this so I don't have to see a pregnant Diane first thing on this web site. I visit this site many times during the day to see if there are any new posts and I have looked at Diane's prego photo about 100 times today. All I can say is, "next post."
Dan's blog is now powered by Movable Type--you go girl!
This is Diane at 27 weeks! P.S. It's a girl!
This book is very funny. If you read Skinny Bones, this is different. There is a new bully. I likedthis book becuase it is funny. Alex is in a cat food commercial and the play "A Christmas Carol".

This book was about a dog whose name was Poochy. There was another dog whose name was Cloudy and everybody thought they looked the same but they didn't because Cloudy's spots were ink and Poochy's spots were real. Cam figured this out by noticing that some spots were in different places. You will have to read the story to find out why they were trying to switch dogs.
Three and a quarter Stars
This book was about dinosaur bones that were stolen and a girl named Cam who tried to figure out who did it. In the end she solved the mystery with her friend, Eric. I figured it out myself.

If you have read the book Hatchet and you liked it you whould like this book. There is a dog that has rabies. The starting of the adventure is when the van falls off the bridge. This book was pretty easy. I really liked it because it is an adventure.

Rachael's post reminded me that there is a great tradition of haircut photos in our family...
Harker didn't need his first haircut until he was 17 months old. Hyrum is almost 4 months and we have been putting it off for a long time!
Yesterday evening John and I took a ride on the Spirit of Washington Dinner Train. We won the tickets at last year's UW Emergency Department christmas party and decided my birthday would be a great time to cash them in.
As most of you know Rachel and I went to San Diego last month for our tenth anniversary, many thanks to Grandma Rackham who was able to come and watch the kids for us. I had meant to get these pictures up some time ago, but alas, I was distracted.
Mom called yesterday from Fort Leonard Wood, it was good to hear her over such a clear connection. Below is a picture of the house she is looking to buy, looks like a great place to visit! You can read more about it here.
I love my little guy!
An hour spent at the local WIC clinic and boy do I have milk. The state of Utah ranks 35th in the nation for its teacher pay, but hey, they have ways to make up for it! By the way, how long does it take to eat two pounds of carrots anyway?
Last month I took Dunn and Zach to see a Mariner's game at Safeco field with a couple of friends from my residency. Today Ben Betteridge (pictured with his son on his shoulders--you may remember Ben as the guy who married the former Rachel Westhoff of the Kansas Westhoff's) gave me a picture his wife took during the game, and I thought I'd share.
Mary is the youngest of the five children of John Sr. and Neva Westhoff. She is commonly known to her family as Katie.
The first story in this book is the scariest and it got not that scary as you read. I thought this book was pretty good. Three stars.
This book is about a kid that has tons of adventures, like he gets lost in a cave. I really like this book. One of his best friends name is Hucklberry Finn. There is lots of excitement. Four stars
This book was about a kitten who was being sold for twenty cents but somebody bought him for fifty cents. The rest of the book talks about Sock's life with his new family and what happens. P.S I liked this book

There are two friends and they think they see a UFO. Other people do too. Cam is a girl. She helps figure out if the UFO is real. I like this book.

OOOOOOOOOOO....At first this book was spooky. This book was good.

Brad and I finished reading the new Harry Potter book today. We read the whole book aloud to each other. I must say it was pretty good and we have never had as many hours of entertainment for $17.
This is my cute little Addyson Jane
I, like Daniel am quite pleased to see the family starting to catch the vision of this site. Dan is an inspiration in that he has become quite a regular blogger. If you do not regularly visit his weblog you are missing out. I look forward to the day when he gets his act together and I am able to syndicate his content on this site. The cool thing about it is that by reading his day to day thoughts, I feel a lot more connected. It's funny because that's not necessarily obvious. See, Dan would not bother to call me and say "hey brother, I just wanted to call you and let you know how much I love my iBook today!" But knowing that Dan was thinking about his iBook that day puts me into Dan's world. Now when I see an iBook or even think about Apple's suductive new G5, I think of Daniel my brother. If I ever cave and go Mac you will be more connected to me, knowing that Daniel played a part in my corruption.
Brad went in for his Esophagastroduodenoscopy (try to say that three times quickly, actually, try to just say it!) today and boy is he out of it! They let Hyrum and I in the recovery room (Harker stayed home with Diane's husband Ben) and Brad kept asking me crazy questions as he dozed in and out of it. He would ask a question and then thirty seconds later ask the exact same question again. Funny thing was, there were about six other people in the recovery room and they all kept doing the same thing. I tell you what, I don't know how the nurses in there keep it together! I had to try so hard not to laugh at all of them. Even when we were walking inside Brad asked me who put his shirt on him and couldn't believe it when I told him he had. I think I've got to get some of that stuff! I just went into the bedroom to tell him something and he woke up quickly, jerked around and then asked what time it was. He was concerned he was going to be late for his surgery! He has to have this done again in a month and this time I am going to have the video camera fully charged.
Emma qoute for the day, "Mommy, I'm poopy...and I need a breath mint."
Word up my dogs! I just want to tell you all how much I love you all. I love seeing the family come together on Westhoff.net. I am very proud of Rachael and Matt. Keep up the good work. If we really get this thing going it will be the coolest. I also think it would be cool if got some web cams and did some video chatting online. I think that most of us have high-speed so it shouldn’t be that hard. Anyway, take care and keep on blogging. Oh yeah, this is not a commercial for mywesthoff.com.
I am sorry to report that Neva and I are homeless and bumming off friends.
I am so excited to get sarted but Brad and I have just returned from a power walk and I am dog tired. Hyrum is also hungry and has just about had it with me. But, before I head off to bed I am going to try to post a picture. For me this should be quite a feat.
I am not quite sure what to think of all of this but I am going to be a part of it!
Come on you guys! Let’s get some more posts up. I know that everyone has at least a few minutes to spare. Let’s win one for the Gipper! I don’t know what that means, but I know that we all need to post more. If we can’t be together in person lets get together on the web. I love you family. Westhoff.net blogging rules!
Also, visit my site: http://www.mywesthoff.com
Rachael is Rachael Mangum, the oldest Westhoff sister, wife of Brad (John) Mangum. "RPG" stands for "Rachael P. Girl" and should not be confused with "Rocket Propelled Grenade."
Let me just start by saying that John is the bomb. I am really impressed with the new site. I especially like the graphic you made for Zach’s page. I didn’t know that you had such skills. I am also very glad to see that you got Matt blogging.
Don’t forget to visit the other Westhoff site: http://www.mywesthoff.com
It tells you what animals do and don't. Animals that hop are: frogs, rabbits, and kangeroos. A cow moos and gives milk. Birds and bats fly. Rhinos eat grass and eats lots of grass. Salamanders, snakes and snails all sliter. I liked this book.

This book was about a Dad who lost his wife. So he put an ad in the paper, and there was a girl named Sarah who said she might be his wife. I liked this book because some parts in it were funny.

Blubber is a really fat girl named Linda. All the other girls at school make fun of her. This book is very funny, and mean. The kids who are mean to Linda don't really learn their lesson, only one does, and she teaches the other girls a lesson.

The War with Grandpa is about a kid who has lived in one room his whole life, but Grandpa comes in to live in his house and is taking his room and Pete is stuck in the guestroom. And the war begins.

It's 5 am and I'm in the Emergency Department, working. Or rather, would be if there were any patients. Getting...sleepy...
Imported Grandpa's blog today, and added a page for Matt.
Matthew is John's younger brother, Dan's older brother. He lives in Kansas. Perhaps in the future, there will be more information here.
Grandpa is Grandpa Westhoff, or John Westhoff, Sr.
Neva is Grandma Westhoff.
It's a beautiful day and I'm sitting on the front porch watching the kids play in the yard in a pool Ray bought today. My niece Carrie and several of the neighbor kids are joining in the festivities.
A month or so ago, when contemplating how to influence my naturally intelligent children to live up to their full potential, I came up with a plan I quickly titled "Dad's Super Summer School."
